As introduced, H.B. 3794 retires the requirement for nurse practitioners (NPs) to have a contractual agreement with a delegating physician and authorizes NPs to prescribe Schedule II controlled substances in all settings. These changes bring Texas into alignment with national recommendations for NP licensure and will help Texas better meet our growing health care needs.

As a patient, I’m writing to respectfully urge your support for HB 3794.
I receive exceptional care from a nurse practitioner, and I trust them deeply with my health. They take the time to listen, explain, and treat me with compassion and expertise. I know I’m not alone—many Texans rely on nurse practitioners as their primary healthcare providers.
HB 3794 would remove unnecessary government barriers and allow these highly trained professionals to continue delivering the care we count on, without being held back by outdated regulations. This bill supports access, lowers costs, and strengthens independent healthcare options—without adding new government programs.
Other states have already made this change, and it’s time for Texas to catch up. Please support HB 3794 so patients like me can keep getting the care we trust.
