What is a wart?

A wart is caused by a build-up of skin layers caused by the wart-causing Human Papilloma Virus (HPV).

How do you get warts?

You can get warts by having physical contact with someone else who has warts. However, routine contact is unlikely to transmit the virus. Contact with broken skin, viral lesions or unprotected sexual contact is usually the main source of transmission.

How do you remove a wart or a skin tag?

Warts can be removed with different methods like freezing (cryotherapy), burning (cautery) and laser therapy.

Are warts contagious?

Yes, warts are caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). To avoid getting a wart, you should avoid exposed physical or unprotected sexual contact with people who have warts.

If you remove a wart, can you get it again?

Yes. Wart treatment should help you get rid of the physical signs of the infection, however, it is possible that it will return. Although the signs of HPV may be gone, there is no “cure” for HPV.

What is a skin tag?

A skin tag is typically a small, non cancerous piece of loose skin that often occurs in areas of high friction, like the neck or the armpits.

Why do you get skin tags?

Skin tags are usually produced by friction on the skin. They are common in areas like the neck or the armpits. In some cases they may be linked to other diseases like diabetes.

If you remove a skin tag, can you get it again?

A skin tag is not an infection. However if the underlying cause is not fixed, you may get skin tags again.

Is there scarring with skin tag or wart removal?

Usually there is minimal scarring with skin tag or wart removal, however, it depends on the size and location of the removal procedure.

Is skin tag or wart removal painful?

Typically skin tag or wart removal isn’t very painful, however, it depends on the method of removal and the size and location of the skin tag or mole. Nevertheless, the pain can typcially be managed with OTC pain medication.
